Always verify when your passport expires. Different areas of the world have different rules regarding passports. A country may decide to not let you enter if your passport is expiring within a certain amount of time. The limit on expired passports can range up to six months; some countries may go up to a year.

Join airline mailing lists. Those publications will ensure you are aware of current discounts and deals as well as last-minute offers. Even though these e-newsletters can contribute to the congestion in your inbox, the money they can save you is well worth it.

If visiting National Parks is in the cards for your vacation, consider purchasing an official National Park Pass. They are only $50 and can be used for one year at all of the parks.

Don’t think you have to travel great distances to have a good vacation. Enjoy a staycation by visiting attractions in your local area. Vacationing close to home lets you save money and support local businesses. You can be delighted to discover a place you never knew existed.

Bringing your own bottled water to countries with dubious water supplies is recommended. Drinking water in a foreign country can lead to stomach problems. Remember to use bottled water even when doing small things like wetting your tooth brush. The tap water where you are staying is very likely contaminated.

Some travel sites offer an e-tracking option. If you have the choice, use it. It will keep you up to date with the cheapest way to travel. It will send you an email if a flight you booked or are watching lowers in price.

Always request a room that is up at least two or three flights. As negligible as this appears, if you live on the ground floor or bottom floor, robbers can enter your room easier. If possible, request a room without sliding doors for security purposes. Rooms with these are much easier for thieves to break into.

If your travel time is a long one, make sure to get up at least once an hour to stretch your legs, even if it means taking an unnecessary trip to the bathroom. Sitting for prolonged periods of time can cause health problems.

Check your local discount electronics store before you depart overseas, and check for a voltage converter or adapter for your appliances. If you wait to buy one until you arrive at the airport or your destination, they will be much more expensive.

Keep in mind that you are not the only guest at the hotel. Be a good travel neighbor by exercising common courtesy. Don’t shout and slam doors or stomp around. Remember that because travelers might be jet-lagged or otherwise suffering from erratic sleep schedules, quiet will be appreciated even at mid-day. You don’t have to whisper and tiptoe, but it’s always welcome if you keep the volume down.

If you need a room at a booked hotel, see if you can stay in a room that’s out of service. Some hotels will not rent a room if there is a minor problem such as a leak or a carpet stain.

To conclude, it is expected that most everyone will travel at some point in time. Because of this it is important to have a good basic knowledge of the things traveling entails, to ensure a safe and happy trip. These tips may save your skin one day.
